The .fortnightly meeting of the St. Paul's (Preebyterian) Young a eopie's Society, held on Wednesday .night, took th© form of a Parliamentary election. .The candidates were Mr F. T. Ager and Mis*- J. McWhirter (Government), Mr N. Procter (Liberal), Mcesrs W. Wotton and W. Mackay (Independent), L. ■B. Quartermain (Social Democrat), and Miss A. MoWhirter (Socialist). The. Enterprise lent, 1.0. R., met in the Linwood Band Hail on., Tuesday evening. Brother G. E. Bielby, jun., presided. -Bro. ther F. A. Judkias delivered a very interesting lecture on liie-saving. brothers H. Williame and. F. M. Rc-bson, PioviaciaJ officers, visited the Tent on business connected with the - 6ub-di3trict. Four - candidates were proposed for mcaiben&hip, and Mr Arthur Twyford was duly initiated a. member by the Provincial cfßcers. The monthly _ meeting of the Linwood Citizens' Association wa* held last evening. The chairman, Mr W. Denton, presided, and there was a representative gathering of citizens. A deputation from the Linwood Band asked the Association to' assist them financially. A committee wae eet up to go into the band's accounts, and the chairman premised that the Association would give the matter iie sincere and immediate consideration. On account of the accident that occurred in Stamaore road on Wednesday, the widenirife ef the street ■ wae again tbe subject of discussion. It was pointed out that, although tbe rate would bo increased only, id, the people had "turned down" the proposal at tie la*t > minticipal election. It. wa» decided to educate the people in Linwood in this connexion. It was decided that a»publio meeting of tbe North Linwood residents be held to consider municipal matters, especially, the water supply. The Linwood Citizens'.. Association held a social evening and euchre party, followed by «, dance. Thero was a large gathering of members and their friends.
