AUCKLAND FARMERS' UNION.
(TRXBS ASSOCIATION '. MGILAH.) AUCKLAND. May 21. The Provincial. Conference of the Farmers' Union to-day passed the following remits:-—(1) That the differential rating on railways be abolished, (2) that the Government be asked to convey agricultural lime from tho nearest available source of supply upon the railways any distance free, in lieu of the 100 miles- limit of free railage, as at present. At the instance of the executive the desirableness, of advocating an alteration of, the Arbitration Act was discusr sed. It was unanimously decided-to suggest to the Government that an amendment should be made, providing that no strike should be allowed to take place before the taking of a ballot under the eupervision of Government officers. . - Captain Colbeck gave instances of the adoption of unfair methods by unions in the application of the secret ballot principle. Ho contended that proper &ecrecv was not observed, and that members were often .prevented from voting in accordance with their desire.
