SUMMARY AND FORECAST.
Mr D. C. Bates, Government Meteorologist, supplied tho following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m. yesterday: — The barometer has risen fast in the south and stormy conditions havo prevailed, with southerly winds, increasing strong to gale. Rain has fallen generally, and snow on the higher levels in all parts of the South Island. Present indications are for south to southeasterly winds, strong to gale; expect cold, squally and showery weather; snow and hail in the south, rivers rising; barometric pressure increasing everywhere.
