CANTERBURY ASSOCIATIQN,
A .meeting of tho executive of tho Canterbury Hockey Association was held last evening in the V.M.C A. rooms, Cambridge ter-. race. Present:—Messrs G. T. Btftloy (chairman), W. •E. Rogers, W. H. Down, A. S. Dravton' P.' M. Vclvin, C. Bellamy, S. G. Holland, D. Jones" W.. Leighton, and C. P. Agar -{secretary) -~'-. The chairnian presented tho Batley Shield to ..tho Christchurch Hockey Club'as winners of last year's First Grade Competition. The Sydenham Club. .wrote withdrawing their Fourth Grade team, and stating that tho ground on the V.M.C.A. enclosure was not available to tbeni this season. Tho. withdrawal was agreed to.
The necessary permission having been granted-, it was decided that the fivo-a-sido tournament and the match against South Canterbury should take place at' Sydenham Park on June 3rd,, and that Mr J. Burgess being agreeablo to accept tho position, should bo appointed supervisor of tho-five-a-sido tournament-
The Third. Fourth, and Fifth Grade tournaments were.-arranged to* start at 9,30 a.m., and the First and Second Grades. at, 1.30 p.m., these times to he'strHtly adhered to. In response to a'-letter from, tho Banks Peninsula Association,-asking for a match against a Second, or Third Grade representative team, it was decided to reply that a - game could be arranged for June 3rd, and in the event of the Ashburton Association requiring a game against a Canterbury team, to write to this body that a game could also be arranged for them on tho same date. Tho Auckland Association notified that they were unable to fix a date for the Ne* Zealand Hockey Association's . Challenge Shield match with Canterbury. After eomo discussion it was arranged that the Auck- ■ land Association be written to, suggesting the last: Saturday in July as a suitable date. The Riccarton Guild Club wrote complain- - ing -as to their treatment by referees in their team's matches. It was arranged that this club should be written to explaining the circumstances, aad regretting thq' unfortunate position this club had been placed in. Tho match against South Canterbury was fixed to be played at ten o'clock'on June 3rd. The question of the coaches for the Fifth Srade team was discussed at.length, and a motion was carried to the effect that the Associatian approved of the principle of teaches, and the following gentlemen were ■iugs-ested to officiate:—Messrs Ackrovd, Cusworth,' Bellamy, Watts, Down, Vclvin, and I'ogors.
