VENEREAL DISEASES.

ACTION BY WELLINGTON HOSPITAL BOARD.

(PRPSS ASSOCIATION TET.EGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May 21. At a meeting of the Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board to-day, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Hardwick Smith, put forward some recommendations on tho subject of venereal diseases, as follow:—

(1) That lectures be given by the medical profession, for they are th_» best authorities in these diseases.

2. That all institutions, such as schools, universities, young men's and women's associations, etc., have a courso of lectures dealing with these diseases.

(3) That the defence forces, when in camp, attend lectures on these suojects. (4) That ships' surgeons be given a grant to lecture to the officers and men on their ships. (5) That public bodies, such as the hospital boards, give grants to medical men to givo public lectures, duly advertised, to young men and women. After somo discussion, these recommendations wero adopted, as also wero the following two clauses of the recommendations mado by the special committee of the Australasian Medical Congress, which mot recently at Auckland: (a)-That provision be made through tho hospital boards to establish laboratories in tho four centres where not already.existent, for the diagnosis of syphilis.

(b) That free treatment in the public hospitals and dispensaries be provided for syphilitics.
