THE FLOODS IN POVERTY BAY

GISBORNE, May 21. To show how quickly the flood waters roso at Makaun on Monday morning, it is stated that a roan was sitting milking cows on one of the dairy farms, when he found tho'water, which he at first took to be surface water, was over his boots. He immediately gave the alarm, but before the cows could be moved to higher ground thoy were almost up to their shoulders in water.
