GER3SAN SERVICE TO NEW . ZEALAND. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, May 20. According to the "Shipbuilding and Shipping Record," at "tho Kaiser's instance, Dr. Yon Bethman-Hollweg secured the promise of leading members of tho Reichstag to grant £500,000 to tho North German Shipping Company's Australian service.
Tho company proposes to extend its service to New Zealand, and is arranging with the New Zealand Steamship Company for a joint fortnightly service.
(rRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, May 21. No ad view regarding tho proposed extension of tbo Nord Dcutecher Lloyd Co.'s Australian service to New Zealand, as reported to-day by cablegram, has yet reached the German Consul (Herr Carl Seegner), but he stated this overling that he would uoi- ho surprised to learn that the proposed extonsion . been undertaken. Herr Seegner stated that, he has consistently urged upon tbe Imperial German authorities .and the shipping companies during the past twenty-five years that a direst service should be" established between Germany and Now Zealand. Already Germany's trade with the Dominion greatly, exceeded the total volumo of al) other Continental countries, and Herr Seegner is confident that- direct steamer communication would be tho means of :is development to double and treble the present volume within a .very few year?.
