MOTOR-CAR DESTROYED.
(PKESS ASSOCIATION* TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May 20. A large 40. horse-power motor-car, ' belonging to Young's Arcadia Garage '.'. at .Pctouo, was completely destroyed ' by fire on the Hutt road about 11.30. last night. The car was engaged in conveying a man and. a woman from ' Hutt,* and when opposite Petono Drillshed stopped through lack of petrol. In,order to re-fill the tanks, the driver placed the tail-light on the seat as far away from tho tank as possible, and ■■ proceeded'to.pour petrol in from a tin. Apparently tho vapour became ignited; .for in a moment the car was enveloped in flames, and before. the fire brigade <'ould arrive the car had been, destroyed.

The; loss is estimated at £400. - \ ; The dwelling was within-one hundred yards of the main, magazine of the forts.-. This created some alarm in tlio neighbourhood. A gang of Artilloryraen was employed in covering the ventilators of the magazine and preventihtz the ingress of any sparks. Captain Micklo states that' the - cordito stored in the magazine, was in such a form that thorowas no danger.
