SUMNER LIFEBOAT.
A letter was received by the Suinnsr Borougn Council from the Lyttelton Harbour Board last night stating that as the question of the future ownership of tho lifeboat and boat sheds at Sumner was included in the provisional agreement come to at the conference between the Minister of Marine and representatives of the Board and Sumner Borough Council on tho 13tb inst., the offer of the Board to hand over' tlia lifeboat and sheds on certain conditions was withdrawn. The provisional agreement above referred to was that the Board would hand over to the Sumner Borough Council all its works in Sumner, together with the lands on which they stood, with the exception of the small area at Bell's baths, cottage, now leased by Mr Paterson, on payment to the Board by the Council of "the present values of the works as shown in tho Board's annual report; or as assessed by an independent arid competent valuer. The values of the_ works as ehown were:—Sumner jetty £506 19s 10d. Bell's baths boat harbour £9?o 18s Bd, lifeboat sheds £219 13s 4d, lifeboats £100 6s 3d, total £1752 18s Id. No reference was made to the- yacht jetty at Monck's Bay. but the Board presumed that the Council would prefer to have control of this also. . The present, valuo of the Board's works there, as shown in the BoarcTs books, was £107 10s 4d. The question of the value of the lookout building on the Cave Rock was also not referred to, but the Board supposed that any arrangement the Council would make for the working of tho signal station '.would ncludo the Council taking possession- of this building also. Its value was shown as £137 14s Id.
The matter was dealt with in committee. ■ -
