ORPHEUS SOCIETY.
■The Choral Hall contained a large audience last night, when a concert was given'by the Christchurch Orpheus Society < The programme contained a number of attractive items, all of which met with ready appreciation. Part songs predominated, *,numbers in this department comprising "Early Spring" (Mendelssohn), 'The Happy Lover" (.Mendelssohn), "Remembrance" (Mendelssohn), "Tho Departure (Mendelssohn), "Tell Mc Flora" (Pinsutij, and "My True Love Hath >My Heart" (Henry Smart). A notablo item was a chorus, "Trumpets'are Sounding" (.Macleodsmith). Miss -XIbbotson (soprano), Mr W. J. Trewern (tenor), and Mr. Reginald Smith (baritone), wero the soloists, and all achieved a fair measure "of success. Mrs Steele contributed the "solo to the. chorus item, ''Give Way Now to Pleasure" (Van Bree), and Mr J. Cragg performed a like service in respect of tho polkaserenade, "Come Away." Mr J. T. Macleodsmith conducted, and Miss Nora Maclcodsmith made an efficient accompanist.
