. NELSON, May 19. The Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister of Railways, addressed a publjc meeting here to-night; the Provincial Hall being \well filled. The Minister, who had a' good hearing throughout, made a general; defence of the Government s administration, replying to the criticism if the Liberal ".flying squadron; Ho declared that during the coming session the Government would complete the redemption of their pledges, with tho exception 'oi compulsory insurance against unemployment, in connexion with which they were watching the working 'of Mr Lloyd George's scheme at Home, .A motion of thanks, and confidence in- the Government, was .declared carried, on the voices, -amidst some uproar.
