YOUNG GIRL ATTACKED BY HER FATHER.

THROAT CUT WITH A RAZOR (riXESS JSSCKTATIOy TELKGIUM.) AUCKLAND, May ID. A shocking affair occurred in Beresfdrd street this afternoon, when a girl named Evelyn Tynan had her throat cut by her father, who was immediately arrested on a charge of attempted murder. Tho child was taken to the Hospital in a critical condition.

A sitting of the Court was subsequently held at tho hospital, befnro Mr E. Page. S.M., when tho deposition* of the girl were taken in tho presence of her father. There were also present Inspector McGrath, Chief-Det-eo tivo,McMahon, and Dr. Maguire, Superintendent of the Hospital. William Tynan was charged -by Inspector McGrath with having wilfully attempted to murder his daughter, Evelyn, by cutting her throat with a razor. On tho charge being read over, accused replied: "J believe 1 did-"

Tho girl, who was sufficiently t-timu-lated to understand and answer questions put to her by the Inspector, nuH she had come- out of school and walked up Borosford street with another girlWht'ii they reached the Day street corner, .she was suddenly hit by someone, wh-m she could not see, and who, she thought, wa.s swearing loudly. Thou sho caught sight of her father with a. razor in his hand, aud he was cutting her head off with it. When sho felt her throat and arm paining her, **be managed to cscapo from her attacker's clutches and ran up to a lady who lived in a. house near by. .The nest thing sho remembered was that the was in a cab. Sho recognised her father.

Accused was then permitted to cross--examine tho witness, and asked: '"Why did you not i-ieak to mc when I was down last week?"

Witness: ''I did speal-r to you. , ' "Why did you not gire mc a kiss today. JUid why did you call mc n drunkard?" the father asked. The girl said she did uot call him a drunkard, and f-ho did not kiss him because she smelt liquor on him. This concluded the enquiry, and accused was remauded for a week. The girl's condition is very low.
