Mr James Leslie presided at the last meeting of the Council, when all the members, with the exception of Mr McCarthy, who has been unwell, were present. The Christchurch Domain Board wrote that the amount collectable by this Council for the current year is £31. The question of joining with an adjacent county for representation on the Domain Board was left for the chairman and the clerk to arrange. A complaint was received from a resident in. lempleton concerning the proximity of a. neighbour's pigstve to the dwellinghouse.- The clerk was instructed to inspect and take steps to have tho pigstye removed. The Public Works Department wrote asking if the Opunc'l intended making application tor a grant towards work. It was decided to apply for a grant for work on the roads t in the Ladbrooks Settle-' ment, as these roads had not been formed by the Government in contormity wiWi tho requirements with the Council, and had been gazetted county roads. The question of tho amount to' be applied for was left to Mr Henley and the clerk. A considerable number of complaints . have recently been received from the caretakers "concerning the number of people interfering with the water-races and breaking tho locks of the gauges. It was decided to advertise" that a reward of £5 would be given to any person* who would brine evidence sufficient to lead to a conviction of anyone found tampering with the races. It was reported that the Department of Internal Affairs'had aHocatod the numbers 1-250 with the prefix "P.A." for registration of motor-cars and cycles. A special order was made fixing the water charges for the current year which are the same as for the preceding year. Notice was also given of the intention to strike rates for the year ending March 31st, 1915. The chairman reported that he had cent out circulars to a number of adjacent connties to ascertain their view 3on the proposal to form a local counties' association. A considerable number of replies favourable to the proposition had been rece'ved. and the matter, of calling a meeting to_ discuss the qnestion was left to the chairman to arrange.
