TELEGRAPHIC COMMUNICATION INTERRUPTED.

WELLINGTON, May 18. At eight o'clock to-night the Telegraph Office advised that telegraphic communication with Gisborno had been totally interrupted all day. Napier reports that the weather is still very bad; that the country is flooded, and that thero is little chance of communication being restored to-morrow. The postmistress at Mohaka had to abandon the office, owing to floods. Wairoa reports that the river'is in high flood, and that there is no chance of the mails leaving for several days.
Heavy rain fell at Parnassus throughout Sunday, and a special coach from Kaikoura yesterday was unable to crcJß the Conway river, which was in high Bood. The timetable coach from Parnassus to Kaikoura did not start yesterday. On Friday, after a warm morning, with a strong nor'-wester blowiug. the weather suddenly changed at Chirverden to tho south-west, and Saturday «nd Sunday were very cold and wet. The Pabau river was slightly flooded," and the Kaikouras received a good coat- . ing of snow. . As the weather now *shows signs of clearing, heavy frosts \ may be looked for.
