CALLOUS JOY RIDERS.
A joy ride in which two youug women and three men took part- at about 11 o'clock at night ha,d an abrupt termination,in Centennial Park, Sydney. They were in a motor-car, and were proceeding along ono of the paths in the park, when the car crashed into a tree just off the track. All five were precipitated on to the grass, the softness of which possibly prevented serious injury. Apparently, only two, the young women, were hurt, but their injuries were slight, consisting only of bruises and abrasions. They, however, suffered greatly from shock. The car was-not seriously damaged, though the crash, which could be heard in Oxford street, was heavy. So soon as they could pull themselves together, the three men. seeing another car approaching, acted iti a most ex- ; traordinary manner, by jumping into i their car and driving away at a fast j rate. The driver of the approaching j car iMsilr Mulroney, of the Jlaiidwich ' Wireless Station, lie had heard the crash and the screams of the women, and had steered in the direction whence the sounds came, with the intention of rendering aitfi^artce. Ho was amazed, therefore, at the contemptible action of the men in leaving the prostrate women to clothe best : they could, and he generously aocom- j modated them in his car, and drove ; them to their homo in Cltimo. j Returning later, Mr Mulroney reported the matter to the Randwick > police. j
