fcherwood'a contribution was heartily encored. Mrs Thomas played the music for the darc-ci- and accompanied most of the songs. The evening concluded with a dance. The proceeds go towards the expenses of th-o Brar.ch.

On Saturday evening in the Durham street Parlour, delegates from the various Methodist Churches in and around Christchurch, were formed into a Council for North Canterbury, for the furtherance of the Laymen s Missionary Movement among the men of the connexion. Mr C. E. Salter was elected it* first president. In hi 3 opening remarks, Mr Salter emphasised the need for whole-hearted effort, and persistent, earnest, and cfucaent service. The Rev. Percy Knight, 8.A., enlightened the meeting concerning the effort in Victoria, giving useful information for local guidance. Mr W. L. Thomas was elected secretary and treasurer to tho Council. An executive committee was appointed to arrange deputations to tho laymen of the Methodist Churches in and around Christchurch, and attend to other matters. Tho pronouncing of the Benediction closed the meeting. At the fartnightlr meeting of the Loyal Riccarton Lodge 1.0.0. F., M.U., rJro. W. Taylor, N.G., presided over a large attendance. Alter the transaction of business, the members entertained their wives and friends at a progressive euchre party and dance. The pri7.es were won by Miss Kingston and Mr W. McLaughlin. Mr and Mra Biggs provided the music. A meeting was hold in the Selwyn street schoolroom on Saturday evening to ascertain if an orchestra could be formed in Addingtori. After hearing, the reports of a number of those nresent, it was decided to form an orchestra, to be'named the Addington Orchestral Society, rehearsals to commence at once. Mr W. Fchsenfeld was appointed acting-secretary, and Mr J. Pooley conductor. ■ . -. At a meeting of the Walthapi School Committee, the following members were prescrit:—Messrs C. V. Harvey (chairman), T. Mortlock, A. Watkins, S. D. riesley, H. J. Williams/ R. Waterson, and Mcsdamcs Wilson . and Williams. The Education Board wrote .enclosing tho Inspector's inspection report,. which was very creditable, the chairman congratulating the headmaster and staff on the results obtained. The following wore appointed a Visiting .Committee:— Mr Williams, Mr Williams, and Mr Waterson. Reference was mode to the past services on the committ-ie of Messrs W. Wraight and J. Empson, and it was carried unanimously that letters of thanks bo sent to them. -.
