KAIAPOI.

A meeting of tho Barbarian SoHetv was held last evening, Mr T. A. Kissling presiding. Impromptu speeches were delivered by about twenty members, the majority of the efforts being bright and entertaining. At next meeting an address will be given by Mr J. L. Wilson, which will he followed by a discussion on military training. At a special meeting of tiro Waimakariri Harbour Board it was decided chat a deputation consisting of members cf the Board, commercial men, and members of the River Improvement Committee, which has recontly been collecting data, should wait upon th-i Minister of Marine and request that he grant- the services ot an engineer to report on tho navigation of the river. It was stated that the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher was willing to receive the deputation on a dato to be fixed before the end of this month.
