IN BANKRUPTCY.
ESTATE OF J. AND J. GUTHRIE,
A meeting of creditors in the estate of Jane and John Guthrio, formerly hotelkeeners, was called for yesterday, but as only one creditor appeared tho meeting was adjourned sine die. Jane Guthrie's statement showed that she held a lease of the Leviathan Hotel, which was sold in December. 1911. She conducted the business on behalf of her husband and herself, their capital being estimated at £'500. In addition she bad about £800 on deposit with the New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Association. Ltd., which was withdrawn in May, 1912. She carried on a confectionery business until December, 1912. She bad no assets except furniture, valued at about £30. Her family expenses for the last two years she estimated at from £5 to £6 i week. The male bankrupt's statement was to the effect that he. had a working interest in his wife's business *t any time. He was a farm labourer by occupation. He did not consider the £200 was owing to the Sydenham Money Club. He had no assets, and no expectations. Bankrupts attributed their failure to their connexion with the Leviathar Hotel and the Sydenham Money Club The chief creditors were the Sydenham and Suburban Money Club £2*14 and W. A. Pokon £8. Bankrupt claimed that the latter was payable by the Money Club.
