MASONIC.
. —♦ — i ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER FOR I ASHBURTON. I , A ceremony of an unusual character took place at tho Masonic Hall, Ashburton, on Friday evening, when the Rose and Thistlo Royal Arch Chapter was consecrated. Thero has been no Arch Chapter in Ashburton for over 1-5 years, but it has seemed to many . Masonic brethren that there was need of such a Chanter, and this want has now been supplied. Tho recent meeting of Grand Lodgo delegates in Cl.ri;tchurch, which brought togother brethren from all over the Dominion, was thought a suitable opportunity, and on - Friday evening thero were present representative brethren from all over New Zealand. The consecration ceremony was most impressive, and was performed by most Excellent Companion J._J. Esson, G.Z. of New Zealand, of Wellington, assisted ; by a largo number of Grand ; officers. In addition to tho G.Z., thero we r e threo brethren present who had previously held that rank, as -wall as-tho Superintendent ,of tho Wellington, Canterbury and Otago districts. Subsequently R.E. Companion Fhvell, Grand Superintendent of Canterbury, installed the principals and officers of the new Chapter. Dr. C. E. Russel Rende! as First Princi.al, W. G. Hellier, as Second Prinei'nal. F. H. Knight as Third Princinal. *W. H. Rundle as Scribe- N., E. F. Nicoll, T. Williams and C W. Nicoll as Sojourners and G. Meddins as Treasurer. Several brethren were proposed for exaltation, and there is every prospect of tho new Chapter having a successful career.
