The Hon. J; E. Jenkinson, M.L.C., was a. passenger by Saturday's train from Dunedin.
Mr E. H. Hiley. General Manager of the New Zealand Railways, left for Wellington by tho Wahine on Saturday night.
Miss Maud Allan, the well-known dancer, and Messrs Leo, Jan, and Misr-hel Cherniavsky. arrived from Wellington on Saturday.
Messrs D. G. Garland, H. C. Hunter (Wellington), C. M. Cruickshank (Wanganui), and G. Powna.i (Wanganui) arrived in town on Saturday.
Visitors to Christchurch include Mr H. Stuart Forbes (Wellington). Mr J. E. Hope (London), and Mr P. J. L. Wright (Melbourne).
Mr J. S. Browii, Mr A. Scott, Mr 31. Cooper, Mr G. Cooper and Mr E. Sanderson arrived from Wellington yesterday.
Mr T. D. Barker, A.M.I. Mecli. E-, has so far recovered from bis recent severe operation that he will be able to attend to his duties in a week or so.
Mr H. T. Little (Woodgrove), Mr G. L. Rutherford (Mactlonald Downs) and Captain R. B. Neill (Mount Som.-s) arrived in Christchurch on Saturday.
Mr H. L. Rislev, chairman of the Bristol Publicity Committee, and Mr E. Manning Lewis. Commercial Superintendent of the Port of Bristol, left for Dunedin on Saturday.
Mr D, P. Scarfe. Nelson manager of Hallenstein Bros., has been promoted 'to the Dosition of manager of the Christcburch branch of the company. Ho takes up liis ncv duties at the end of the month.
It is stated in Waiau that Colonel R. A. Chaffey. V.D., has accepted an important military position in the Canterbury district, necessitating his residence in Christchnreh for the next twelve months.
The many friends of the Rev. O. A. Fraer. Vicar of St. Stenhen's, will regret to learn that ho is suffering from an affection of the throat and oars, and is mow, in Dr. McGibbon's privato nursing home in tho city.
The. Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister of Railways, arrived at Westport from Greymouth on Saturday night (says a Press Association telegram). He was entertained at dinner by leading citizens, and subsequently received deputations at the Town Hall. To-day ho will be shown over the harbour works, and to-morrow morning leaves for Nelson.
At St. Andrew's . Church yesterday morning the Rev. J. Mackenzie mado reference to tho loss sustained by tho church through the death of the late Mr D. B. Bowie, who had been connected with St. Andrew's Church, with one or two intervals since 1862. Ho was an elder of the congregation for the last 25 years. The choir sang Sullivan's "Crossing tha Bar," and at the conclusion of tho service Dr. Crookc, who presided at the organ, nlayed the "Dead March in Saul."
