Sydenham, playing two short, opened from tho northern end. Tho Greens, by means of their forwards, looked _lil.e scoring, but hard kicking enabled Sydenham to force. Returning to the attack. Tims scored from -i loose rush, but Edmonds made a poor effort to improve. Linwood 3, Sydenham nil. Throe force downs wore recorded against Sydenham in quick succession, lie Linwood forwards continued *o control tho game. With play in the Cardinals" twenty-five. Linwood essayed a passing rush, and assisted by weak tackling, Norrie scored on tho corner, rl'obson failing at, goal. Linwood 6. Sydenham nil. For a brief spell Sydenham invaded their opponents' twentyfive. Harvey eventually leading a Grcon rush, which ended at Sydenham line. The Cardinals cleared, and good play by Clemens reversed positions, and Linwood wero forced. For tho remainder of the spell Linwood claimed the advantage, but could do no better than record three fofnc downs. Upon resuming Sydenham, who were now pfaying fourteen men, immediately went to* the Linwood twenty-five. A series of looso rushes by Sydenham were only checked on Linwood's. line. Linwood "wero kept on the defensive for a spell, a force down eventually relieving. From a forward rush Batnurst scored wide out, Doell just failing to convert. Linwood <i. Sydenham 3. Hard kicking by Sydenham spoilt a likely chance, and Linwood forced. \"<. Cummings beat Doell for the ball, and raced over unopposed, scoring under the posts. Taking the kick himself ho easily converted. Linwood 11, Sydenham 3. A hard kick well followed up by Davis saw that player outpace the opposition and scon*. Doell converting with <t. good kick. Linwood 11. Sydenham 8. Each side attacked in turn, Mcintosh eventually breaking away and scoring at the corner, H.bion failing atgoal.' "Linwood 11. Sydenham 8. For the -emainder of the spell play, which w.s in favour of Sydenham, was of an uninteresting nature; and Linwood won a very ragged "Anic by 14 points (1 goal from a try and 3 tries) to S points (I goal from a try and 1 try).
