NOTES.
Corrift was given a schooling taskover the hurdles at Ricearton vp-sterdin-morning, and gave a fair display. *" R. W. King, who was reeentlv granted a trainer's license by the Canterbury Jockey Club, has put Query Into work. Conn the Shaughraun and Icarion were shipped to Sydney by the. Maunganui on Thursday, en route to Melbourne. The Riccnrtou horseman L Hagerty has gone over in charge of the pair. An unfortunate accident occurred at Riecarton yesterday morning during training operations. While bein«schooled over the hurdles the- chestnitt gelding by Cajolery, in C. Bourne's stables, blundered badly, and falling broke his neck. The gelding was a promising hurdler, and showed considerable- aptitude in negotiating tho battens. A cable messago from Sydney says that in the Golden City Cup, of onemile and a half, Cocatea, by Royal Artillery—Malana, 3yrs, and Renegade, by True Blue—Apslqy, oyrs, ran a dead-heat for first place, while the ex!Xew Zealander Full Sail, by Pilgrim's Progress—Windwhistle, was third, a neck behind tho loaders. There were eight starters, and the distance was run in 2min 40 1-oth sec. His Majesty King George had his colours successfully carried at Ncwbury on April Ist. by Sunny Lake, by Sundridge from Pearl of the Loch. Sunny Lake was one of a dozen starters in Greonham Stakes, a three-year-old race of the value of £879. and ho won by a couple of lengths. This tativo of his Majesty was not entered for the' Derby, his only classic liability being the Two Thousand Guineas. A notable feature of tho present seam England consists in the return of K. Randal to the saddle, from which he has been absent for several years. Randal apparently retains all bJs old skill, as he has already ridden a few wirmors,' and there .seems to bo a fairly good demand for his services. Randal won the Grriotham Stakes on Jus Majesty King George's filly Sunny Lake. In the same race, L. H. Hewitt rod© Mr J. Mtisker's General Gowan into third place.
