TERRACE GAOL.
W. T. YOUNG'S CONDEMNATION. (SPECIAL TO "THE TRESS.") WELLINGTON, May 15 W. T. Young, of the Seamen's Union, who has been in gaol liere on a ofearge of inciting at the time of the recent strike, soys the Terrace Gaol is in parts in :i rotten and decaying condition—leaky, unsafe and infestefi with rate. He also finds fault with the bathing and other accommodation and the food. He states that the meat is stringy gristle from the shin bone of the animal ; the bread is often sour and doughy; and tho food at dinner slushy and not dean. The only eating utensils alJowed are a knife and spoon —no fork. No milk of any kind is allowed. Tho porridge, soup, vegetables and meat are nil boiled in coppers instead of being cooked separately. Hβ regards the gaof as a manufactory for criminals, bet he 6peaks well of tno officers.
