! WANGANUI, January 30. - A lad named Wilson, coming to Wanganui by th© Auckland express, was jerked from the platform of the train at Porewa,.near Marton, yesterday. He was not missed.by those on. the train. The lad fell heavily on his head and hands, but walked some distance to a house, where he collapsed and became unconscious. Medical aid was sought, and he was subsequently brought to the Wanganui Hospital. No bones wore broken, and the sufferer is progressing favourably. y-- , DANNEVIRKE, January■ J_C , At' an inquest- held at Norsewood on a nine-year-bid boy named George Douglas Anderson, a verdict waa returned that death was due to syncope, aggravated by working outside in ,excessive heat. ' REEFTON, January 30. The inquest on- Downie, whoywas killed in the Energetic mine on/the 17th inst., was resumed. Evans, general manager, recalled, again refused to give details of salaries paid to Downie and the mine manager. .The Coroner ruled that the question was irrelevant. No new evidence was elicited, and the jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death," adding a rider to the effect that the accident was duo to disobedience of .the orders of the mine manager, and recommending as a safeguard for workmen that strict attention in future be paid to mine managers' orders. INVERCARGILL, January 30. A lad named John Burfoot, aged 16 years, who was run over by a motorcar in the vicinity of Waianawa, yesterday afternoon, died. to-d»y as a result of-the injuries he received. He was riding a bicycle behind a trap, and when coming down an incline ho swerved on the side of the road. Just at that moment a car, driven by George Stone, of Spar Bush, which was travelling in the opnosite direction, crashed into the cyclist, knocking him down and passing over his body. The boy was driven post hasto by Mr Stone to the Southland Hospital. Mr Stone stated that he did not notice the boy riding behind the trap, land he was so closo on to him at the time that it was impossible to avert the accident.
