EMPIRE COMMISSION.
RECRUITING OF EMIGRANTS. (By Ca_e.—Prea« Association— Copyright.) (Received January 30th. 9.50 p.m.) • LONDON, January 30. Some misconception has arisen over the Dominions Commission's criticisms of the emigrant recruiting system. The report points out that Australasia exercises supervision over the agents selecting State-aided emigrants, but the bulk of* the recruiting agents in the United Kingdom are subjected, to a mere semblance of authority by the Board of Trade in shipping other classes of emigrants. PACIFIC CABLE. (Received January 30th. 9.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 30. The Hon. Agar Wynne, PostmasterGeneral, referring to the Dominions Commission's suggestion to make moro use of the Pacific cable, says that the more the Pacific cable is used for weekend messages the better it will be for tho Postal Department. They are already a great success, and if the cost were reduced, they would be moro widely used. The Pacific Board should advertise the cable more extensively.
