ARBITRATION COURT.
MR STRINGER, K.C., APPOINTED PRESIDENT., (SPECIAL TO "TH . PRESS.") WELLINGTON, January 30. Mr T. W. Stringer, K.C., of Christchurch, is to be tho new President of the Arbitration Court. Mr Stringer was born in Christchurch on November 4th, 1857,. He was educated at Mrs Alabaster's School and at the old Presbyterian High School, which ceased to exist whea the Education Act of 1877 came into operation. Mr Stringer also attended lectures at Canterbury College. He was a clerk at Messrs Twentyman and Cousins's for a time, and was articled to Mr T. I. Joynt in September, 1874, and admitted as a barrister and solicitor in October, . 1879, when he became a partner in the firm of Duncan, Cotterill and Stringer. Since then he has carried on practice in Christchurch. In May, 1893. Mr Stringer was appointed Crown Solicitor, and in June, 1907, ho was made King's Counsel. He has been President of the Canterbury Law Society for some years, and was also at one time a member of tho Board of Governors of Canterbury College. As a young man Mr Stringer was a member of the Canterbury Rowing Club, and as a footballer ho was a member of tho fir.t interprovincial team from Canterbury which toured New Zealand in 1876. and represented, the province for several years after.
