BOROUGH COUNCILS.
AKAROA. " The fortnightly meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council was held on Wednesday. Present:—The Mayor (Mr G. Armstrong), Councillors Newton, Walker, Cantrell, Lewitt, Munro, Daly, Leete, Fyfe, and Vangioni. Correspondence was received from the Lands and Deeds Registry Office,, asking the Council to produce certificates of titlo to enable Pompallier and Viard streets to be exempted from the provisions of section 107 of the Public WorksAct, 1908. The Mayor reported that the request had been complied with. Mr G. Amos, tenant of the Council's reserve at Ashburton wrote enclosing rent and notifying the Council that he had disposed of his interest in the reserve to Mr 0. Digby.—Received. Mr G. Harris wrote offering his services as Borough solicitor.—Accepted. A request for a grant by the Peninsula Technical Association was approved, and the sum of £10 voted. Mr T. W. Wilkins waited on the Council with respect to the roading of that portion of Narbey's estate in the borough which it is proposed to cut up and offer for sale. It was resolved that a legal opinion be procured on the Council's position, and that a visit be paid to the locality on February sth. A report from the Baths Committee recomnionding tho erection of several additional dressing rooms was adopted. It was decided to invite tenders for the work t with desicns, the Council to supply timber. Tho question of painting the Fire Brigade Station was referred to the Brigade Committee with -nower to act, also that service medals be procured for members of the Brigade entitled to such.
