TAMARIX HILSPIDA.
This variety of Tamarix is in full flower at the present time, and is one of the most valuable of om* garden shrubs.. Tho flowers are borne oh slender upright branches, and aro ofa bright rosy carmine colour. It is not new in commerce.' having been introduced into England from the Orient in 1893. It, however, is not well-known, and not offered by many nurserymen. When it is known, there will be a great demand for it, as it is not only a good thing in the way of garden shrubs, but has the added value of flowering when very few shrubs are in bloom. It will grow well anywhere, including soils which are poor and sandy. It does not grow to any great height, coming j into bloom when but two feet high, ultimately reaching about Oft in heitrht. Buddlica Variablis Vcitchann's.—This is one of the very best shrubs introduced from China during the last few years. It lias not been long in commerce, 'biit it has been distributed very freely all over the horticultural world, and. in conseaueuce, is how becoming well-known. The flowers, which are a bright lilacr .are jdeiisely crowded in large gloSoso heads'' from 4 in to 6in long. These flowers are very sweetscented, and-are. attractive to'all kinds of insects, more particularly to butterflies, which on bright days hold levee on the flower bunches. At tho present tinio plants are a mass of bloom, forming conspicuous objects in the borders or beds.
