The Government has deported ten Labour leaders, Watson, Poutsma, Bain, Mason. Crawford, Waterston, Kendall, 1 Cockerall, Livingstone, and Morgan. They wero taken with the greatest secrecy and under strong escort through Natal and put aboard a steamer, which was ordered to sail beforo dawn. The deportation was made via Natal because martial law continues there. Parliament will grant an indemnity next week for acts under martial law. Measures also will bo taken to prevent tho return of the deported men. Mr Justice Wessels, sitting at Johannesburg, declined to grant an order restraining the Government deporting the men, on the ground that ho had insufficient evidence. Ho advised counsel to apply to tho full Supreme Court to-day. The Government is acting under tho twenty-second clause of the Immigration Regulation Act of 1913. "DURBAN, January 28. IThe ten deported leaders were taken aboard tho Umgeni at midnight.
