DISTRICT NURSING.
.. .—I • ■' NURSE'MAUDE'S SCHEME. ■ The Public Health Committee reported to tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday that Nurse Maude had formulated her proposals for conducting tho District Nursing over tho extended area agreed upon by tho Beard and the Nursing Association. The committee recommended the Board to.approve the proposals. Operations were to commence on April lst. Nurse Maude outlined her scheme as follows: — ."That the..district, of Christchurch and suburbs bo divided into two parts' by tho dividing lino of Colombo streot from th_' hills up to Papanui on one side and Shirley on the other. ~ "Tho east sido shall comprise Shirley, Richmond, Linwood, Woolston, Beckenham, and City. The. west side shall comprise Papanui, part of Bryndwr and Fendalton, Merivale, St. Albans,' Lower Riccarton, Spreydon, Addington, and City. These tli-jtiicts shall both be under the charge a nurse, assistant nurse, and proba.i.' ' >rs. "The whole shall be supervised by myself. I shall hold myself responsible for"*my nurses and their work, and shall visit all patients from time to time. I shall attend to all correspondence and relief that may bo wanted. I shall be responsible for all bodies in tho morgue in so/far as seeing they are properly prepared for burial, a work we have carried on for some years. "I shall furnish your Board with whatever reports it requires. "Arrangements-will have to be made by your Board with the Resident Medical Officer with regard to bur attendance on those patients who are discharged from the Hosr-ita!. We must bo notified in writing direct from the Hospital, not through the pa-ionts. . If this is properly carried out, a great deal of the present congestion can be relieved, and those waiting for bed- can be admitted sooner that at the present time. "This scheme can bo carried out by the addition of two more nurses, making a staff of one superintending nurse, two ' charges, nurses, two assistant nurses, two probationer nurses." 'In a postscript Nurse Maude said: — 'Should we find outside districts require more help than wo anticipate, then more nurses must be procured, but this schemo can only be tried to see if it can work with the proposed number of nurses." The Board adopted the scheme.
