COUNTY COUNCILS.

SPRINGS. The Springs County Council met at Springston on Tuesday. Present: — Councillors M. F. Ryan (chairman), R. W. Lochhead, J. W. Milne, J. Fleets, and C. Wolfe. A motion of sympathy with Cr. Lochhead in the loss of his son was'passed. Mr John Wolfe wrote, in reply to a letter from the Council, agreeing to allow his olfer of £o towards tne cost of constructing a concrete culvert in Lincoln township to hold good for six montlis. The-cierK of the Paparua County Council wrote stating that his Council was agreeable to having a conference with representatives from tho Springs Council in regard to water matters, on February otb. It was decided, owing to the busy harvest season, that the Paparua Council should be asked to arrange the conference on a later date, on a Wednesday or Saturday, in. Christchurch, for preference. It was agreed that tho chairman, Crs. Wolfe and Lochhead should inspect all the Council's cottages, with a view of having repairs effected, and report at the April meeting. It was reported that the sub-committee set up to consider the tender for cocksfoot cutting on tho roads had accepted the tender of Messrs Lugg and Bennet, at £20 10s for the Springston riding and £15 for tho Greenpark riding. The clerk reported that the state of the roads generally was good. It was decided to discontinue purchasing small birds' eggs from the end of the month. Mr G. Baker was re-appointed dog ranger, the terms of payment to be 20 per cent, on tho takings. It was reported that the tender of Mr Grieves had been accepted for Building a coalshed at South Springston. Cr. Lochhead referred to tho matter of cleaning out the mill dam at Lincoln, and : said that the Lincoln people had been complaining to him. Other councillors also referred to tho matter, and it was decided to urge the owner of tho property to have the work done. Tho clerk reported that the receipts for the month were £641 18s. and the credit j balance at date £703 lis 2d.
