CABLE RATES.
ft PACIFIC BOARD-S ALLEGED LACK OF ENTERPRISE. (By Cable.—Press Association.—__pyri__it.) LONDON, January 27. The report of the Dominions Commission comments on the anomaly of the Commonwealth charging a terminal rate of fivepenco per word for one transmission of Pacific cables, whereas New Zealand charges only a penny. New Zealand cables should be reduced to 2s Bd. The Pacific Board has not shown tho enterprise that might reasonably have been expected of it, a laudable desire to abolish deficits having obscured its vision in respect to larger and moro urgent duties. To spend two millions and then leave the cable comparatively idle for two-thirds of tho day is not wise from tho commercial, political, or common-sense points of view.
