The Hon. C Louisson arrived from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr and Mrs Hnughton (London) arrived in town last evening. Dr Earl Pago arrived in Christchurch from Australia yesterday. Mr D C. The Hon. A. L. Herdman returned to Wellington by last night's ferry steamer. Dr. E. Levin ge and Mr G. Jameson left for Wellington by the Maori last night. The Rev. Dr. Erwin returned from the South by the second express last night. Captain A. M. Ross, of tho West Yorkshire Regiment, has been appointed instructor in tactics at tho Royal Military College at Dumroon, '■ at "a salary of* £450 a year. Mr David Todd (Dunedin), Mr T. Fleming (Invercargill), Mr John Buckley (Oamaru). Mr J. J- O'Donnell (Ashburton), and Mr H. K. Wilkinson (Dunedin) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr G. L. Petersen, touring manager for Messrs Wirth Bros.' Circus, arrived from tho South by last night's express, to make arrangements for a short season in Christchurch early next month. Major A. W. Jones, of tho N.Z. Engineers, who has been transferred to tho reserve of officers after twenty years' service, and several ex-members of tho corps will be entertained at a smoke concert this evening. Mr T. A. Browno (Rolf Boldrowood) was seriously ill at his home in South Yarra for some days last week. A welcome change in his condition was reported when the mail left. Mr Browne is 87 years of age. Mr H. G. Hill, assistant general manager of the Bristol and Dominions Producers' Association, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning. Ho expect.- to be in Canterbury about a fortnight on business connected with tho association. Mr W. Butler, organising secretary of tho Samarang Exhibition, arrived in Sydney from Java last week. The object of his visit is to endeavour to induce Now South Wales to recognise the importance of arriving a. a decision as to representation at tho Exhibition. MY King Silter, of the Chatham Naval Yard, has Leon appointed manager of tho Cockatoo Island Naval Dockyard at Sydney, at a salary of £1750 per annum. Mr King Salter, who has had years of servico in tho Admiralty, has excellent credentials, and since 1907 has occupied tho post of constructor at Chatham. Miss Beatrice Grimshaw, a wellknown writer on New Guinea, was a passonr_er aboard the steamer Coblenz, which arrived at Brisbane last week. She had been travelling in German New Guinea, and wished to return to Papua, but no boat beirc; avnilab'fc. she was forced to proceed noii-h, and await th-3 arrival of a suitable steamer. Official advice has been received in Wellinerton that Sir Hartmann Wolfgang, First Assistant Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, and permanent secretary to th-- Imperial Conference, will visit Now Zealand this year, arriving at Bluff on June Bth. Ho leaves London next week, and visits South Africa ard the Au'-t*'a-lian. States, reaching Bluff from Hobart. Sir Hartmann. after visitinT the principal New Zealand centres, will leive Auckland for Vancouver on June 27th.
