BEST TWELVE ROSES.
* VIEWS OF "PRESS" READERS. With a view to increasing the inter- | est in rose-growing, we invite amateur gardeners to send in lists of the twelve j varieties of garden roses considered to : be tho best. In accordance with the views ex- j pressed by the president of the National Rose Society of Victoria, it is requested that the lists should contain roses which will give fair results without undue attention, the following points being taken into consideration, namely, erect and vigorous growth, freedom of bloom, colour, and, where possible, perfume. When a sufficient number of lists have been received they will l>6 analysed, with the view of ascertaining which twelve varieties iave received largest number of votes. A prize will bo given to the contributor whoso list most closely approximates to the list of varieties receiving the largest number of votes. Each contributor is requested to send in only one list. Laurent Carlo (velvety carmine). Grace Darling (creamy white, shaded peach). Victor Hugo (cardinal crimson). Fran Karl Druschki (snow white). Eclair (bright fiery red). Theresa (madder pink, with carmine splashes). Robert Duncan (bright rose lake). Madame Edina Metz (rosy carmine, shaded salmon). The abovo are growing in my garden.—Yours, etc., ■ W. COOPER.
