A MILITABY FUXERAL

The funeral of tho late Colonel "W. A. Day, V.D., A J>.C.. took place yesterday afternoon with full military honours. There was a largo muster of officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of Iho Territorial Forces and of the old Volunteer companies to pay the last honours to the deceased officer. His Excellency the Gorernor, Lord Liverpool, was represented by Captain G. F. llutton, A.D.C. Owing to tho Staff tour, which is now being held at Cambridge, Alajor-General Godlcy and members of the Headquarters Staff wero not be present. Cooper, commanding Canterbury Coast Defence Troops; Liout.-Colonel Cresswell and Lieut.-Colonel Hobday, Heserve of Officers; Lieut.-Colonel Richard- j son, commanding 13in North Canter-! bury and Wrstland Regiment; Lieut.- ', Colonel R. W. Anderson, Principal j Medical Officer; and riieut.-Colonel Fenwick, commanding No. 6 Mounted Field Ambulance. | The bearers were old members of the late Colonel Day's first company, the Christ's College Rifles, who had specially rvquesfeU to be allowed to act in that capacity, namely, Messrs G. There wero also present a number of members of the Freemasons' Lodge of St. Albans. _ Tho coffin was borne on a gun-car-riage, and covered with a Union Jack, and was followed immediately after by the deceased officer's led charger and a hearse on which there were a very large number of beautiful wreaths. The route at intervals was lined by many of the general public. From the hcase in Kilmore streirt the cortege proceeded to St. Luke'? Church, where a service was conducted by his Lordship Bishop Julius, Canon W. W. Sedgwick, Bishop-elect of AVaiapn, and the Rev. F. N. Tavlor. vicar of St. Luke'e. Thence " the procession went via Avonsido and the Milo road, to the Linwood cemetery, the service at the graveside being conducted by Canon \V. W. Sedgwick and the Rer. F. N. Taylor. Tie service was most Impressive, and at tho conrlupioii n volley was firrdvover tl;o grave by B Comp.iny of tho Ist (Canterbury) Regiment, and tho "Last Post" was sounded by the buglers of tho regiment.
