The Supreme Court granted a rule nisi returnable on Wednesday for tho release of Mr Cressuell, M.P., on the ground that the Magistrate wrongly claimed to administer martial law when there was no riot or disturbance on the Witwatejsrand. The Magistrate acquitted the executive of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers on a charge of unlawful -assea'Viy, on the ground that the term ''enclosed space did not apply to rooms. A REVOLT THAT FAILED. LONDON, January 25. An Exchange telegram states that the Zulu revolt at Middleburg, which broke out during the absence of the troops maintaining order in Johannesburg, has been suppressed. Wner. the Zulus say.- the burghers leaving Middleburg for tho Rand, emissaries w»re sent to Zululand to reporl that ijio tinio \v:is opportune for ;i revolt, as the whites were warring against each other. Tho were arrested befoic they reached Zululand, and the evidence shows that it was intended to murder the only whites remaining in the vicnity. Tiie Government sent a largo pacro' to Miridleburg, warning the Zulus that on the first signs of violence the offenders would be shot. MARTIAL LAW RELAXED. DURBAN RAILWAYMEN RESUME. (Received January 26th, 11.10 p.m.) JOHANNESBURG, January 26. Martial law has been further relaxed, and the public are allowed out of doors until midnight. The secretary of the Springs branch of the Labour Party was sentenced to one month's imprisonment and fined £25, in default a further month's imprisonment, for inciting natives to strike at the Springs mine. Tho Durban rnilwaymon have resolved to resume work.
