THE NEW JUDGES.

NO APPOINTMENTS YET. (SPECIAL TO "THK rUKSS.") WELLINGTON, January 20. In the course of a week or so, the Attorney-General will bo in a position to announce who are to be the two new judges to bo appointed under the Judicature Amendment Act of last session. The original intention was that two adudges should be appointed, but after tho eioi- tion of tSir Joshua Willianis to tho Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, tho Bill was amended to provide for the appointment of only cue extra judge. There are now, therefore, only two appointments to TTo made —ono judgo to replace Sir Joshua Williams, and one other judge. No information on the subject has been given by Ministers jet, nor will any bo given until the appointments havo been made. Sir Joshua WillLams's resignation does not take' effect until the end of this month, and the Judicature Amendment Act does not come into force until the Ist of February. It may be accepted as certain that, in accordance with the practice hitherto, Mr Justice Sim will drop the Arbitration Court work, and will devote his attention wholly to Supremo. Court work. It is stated that Mr J. 11. Hosking, of Dnnodin, will be one of the new appointees, and Mr J. W. Salrnond, Solicitor-General, has been mentioned as likely to be the other. A DENTAL. Herdman's reply tliis evening to a reporter regarding the report circulated to-day that Mr Justice Sim, President of the Arbitration Court, and Mr J. 11. Hosking, K.C., of I>unedin, were to bo appointed to tho Supreme Court bench under the Judicature Act of last session. Mr Herdman said the matter was so far from being settled that he could make no announcement regarding it..
