~, — ~-.»—— AKAROA. A meeting of tho Akaroa County Council was held on Saturday. Present —Messrs J. I). Bruce (chairman). C. B. Thacker, K. Hay, and J. Newbegin. Auctioneers' licenses wero granted to Mossrs R. Lntter and H. ilatson and Co. Tho Engineer reported having passed the Onawe Flat road and wharf contract, and stated that the wharf shed would be completed in a few days. The Akaroa and Waimii R-oad Board requested the Council to clear the drain on the main road at tho foot of the Robinson's Bay Valley road, as the storm water backed over the- latter road in tho rainy season. The Council decided that it could not comply with the Board's request, as the drain wa-s not on the formed road. The Commissioner of Crown Lands informed the Council that, in accordance with its representations, the Government had changed Iho purpose of the old Block House ■Reserve in German Bay to a Recreation Reserve. The Crusher Engineer, in his report, stated that owing to the difficulty in- eng-.gin? men as wheelers, the crusher had not been able to work full time during'the month. The Chairman said that at this time of the year the roads required constant supervision and attention, and gave notice to move at tho next meeting:—"That tho mien tion of wages paid to the crusher sta/T be taken into eoiHdoration, also the question of granting tho maintenance staff grass-eeeding leave." Tho Clerk was appointed Inspector of Vehicles, under the by-laws. On behalf of the Pigeon Bay Road Board, Mr Hay presented a statement, showing that the cost of the Holmes Bay bncliro, which tho Council had osrood t-o subsidise, was £liß Os Ocl. Tho Chairman undertook to insnect the work before the crant was paid. Tho Pigeon Bay Road Board was granted permission , to take metaJ from tho Reserve No. 1386.
