CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

1 w BOARD OF GOVERNORS. The Board of Governors of Canterbury College met yesterday. Present—Mr J. C. Adams (chairman), Bishop Grimes, Dean Harper, Dr. Lester, Messrs T. Brock, W. H. Montgomery, S. Hurst Sealer, T. W. Adams, L. B. Wood, G. Rennie, H. D. Acland, and G. T. Weston. The College Committee recommended that the £2000 voted by the Government for additional lecture rooms afc the College be utilised for the erection of a College library. In moving the adoption of tho recommendation, the Chairman said considerable correspondence had passed between the Government and the Board on the subejct. Tho vote was a £ for £ subsidy up to £2000. It had been thought that the Government would give tho subsidy towards the erection of a College library. Hβ had therefore written asking if this subsidy was in addition to tne library subsidy. The Inspector-General, however, " had informed him that the subsidy granted was the oulysum that could be voted, but it could be used for either the erection of lecture rooms or the erection of a library. The College Committeo thought" tho library project was tho better, becauso a certain amount towards it had been promised by residents of Cbristchuroh. Hβ was sorry to say the amount bad not reached £2000 yet. They would want £4000 for the building alone, lot alone the equipment. In reply io a qnestion, the Chairman said .they could use tho College funds, but he wanted to use the funds of the public. It would be a very good thing if they could get £200 C from the public. It would relievo the Board, because a considerable sum must be required for the equipment of the library. The motion was adopted. Upon the motion of Mr Montgomery, the matter was referred to the Building Committoe to ascertain what tho architect's estimates were as to the fcost of the library, the cost of the arcades, and the cost of the equipment, a report to be presented to toe next meet* mc of the Board! The Museum and Library Committee reported that they had permitted 3ir E. It. "Waito to vacate his position as curator of the Museum on Tuesday, March lOfch. Mr Acland was appointed deputychairman during the chairman'e absence from Christchurch. Dean Harper was added to the College Committee. The Chairman reported that the committee empowered to deal with the matter had appointed Miss Leversedge assistant mistress at the Girla' High School.
