THE MARINE ENGINEERS' SPLIT.
SYDNEY, January 24. The President and officers ofjfche Australasian Institute of Marino Engineers admit that the statement published in a New Zealand paper that members ; of the Instituto are taking a ballot with. a view to severance with the New Zealand section of the Union is substantially correct. The reasons given for the desire for separation are that the 3>ominion members had oposed the desires of the Australian members for a ballot, that they opposed attempts to obtain better conditions for members, and that they had broken the rule* of the orcanisation by working aa firemen and trimmers during the recent strike. A meeting of ex-special foot police has been called for Wednesday 28th inst., at 8 p.m., at the Officers Club Rooms, Kinpc Edward discuss the question of a presentation to Colonel Chaffey. '»
