AMBRYM AFFAIR.
ALLEGED RECRUITING OF NATIVES.

Extracts from the log of the captain of the steamer La France, published in the Noumean papers, state that the Aaibrym natives were asked if they wanted to board the La Franc© to be conveyed 6afely to Port Sandwich. They accepted readily, and commenced embarking. Suddenly tflro launches with white people aboard, quite unknown to the crew of the JL»a France, appeared on the scene, and incited the natives to leave the vessel. A'little scene followed. Notice was given Dr. Bowie and his associates, who were in the boats, not to interfere, and upon their refusal to desist, the; were threatened with a sprinkling, Aβ they did not budge, the steamer's pump was put into action, and Dr. Bowie and his associates were copiously drenched. It is also alleged that Dr. Bowie dragged natives from the La France's beat, asd told them that the vessel was recruiting for Noumea. It is claimed that tho La France rescued 471 natives from danger.
