Wβ have received from Captain J. H. Maiciel, Government- Mfcrine Superintendent, Lyttelton, c copy of; th© New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide Table* for 1914. The work, which is bound in a volume of 475 pages, contains' much valuable information for the mariner, and is illustrated by many mape. A chapter on the winds and woatber in New Zealand hae been written by the Rev D. C. Bates, Director of the Meteorological Office, and -weather reporter for the New Zealand Government. There are also published in the work some valuable nautical tebke and examples of problems worked by their aid, which should tend to encourage mariners to practice determining the ship c position from two etare at twihpht. While much of the information printed in previous numbers is retained, this yeare almanac contains many new departures, and the work as a whole will find appreciation in the circles for which it i» intended.
