*c .A. THREATENING LETTER. PICKETS OUTWITTED. (press association telegram.) NELSON, December 8. "About SO men are working on the r wharf to-day. The statement that the strikers intended returning to work eiiortly. failing a satisfactory assurance from the 11 Federation, is dented by'the s<VHtn.ry of t.h'- old union. Mr S. G. Kirker, manager of the Golden .Bay Shipping to-day received the following letter:—"Kirker, we iiro welj aware that you are the man who is writing to-the papers pricking •• up the new union'?jid. causing trouble, at tho port. You will have your day shortly. Red Fed. I drop Mr Mo- - Arthur a note if you don't keep your "mouth shut." Mr McArthur is managing director of tho company. The handwriting indicates that "several people had a hand in tho concoction of the . letter. . The strikers at the Puponga mine are . very sore over the removal of coal stored in bins by the scow Pearl Kas- . ' par. The skipper outwitted the ■ pickets, slipping in at 2 a.m., when only a policeman was visible, tho pickets having gone to bed about an - hour previously, satisfied that no attempt would.bo made to take coal. The " Pearl Kaspar's crew loaded the 70 tons available, and was ready to sail when ; tho strikers made their appearance at the wharf, and forcibly expressed their indignation.
