I THE LATEST SECT.
A new sect proclaiming a now Messiah has appeared in Paris (the "Chronicle" says). Some time ago thcro died in Belgium an old man aained Antoine, to whom the peasants attributed miraculous powers of healing. Antoine, who was hailed as a prophet, explained bis supposed miracles by a doctrine of faith. He has been sue- : ceoded by his widow, and in order to spread the new gospel the "mother," as . she is called, has come to Paris with 600 " followers. The men dress in black, f\ , priestly robes buttoning to the chin, { with black hats, and the. women, also • <, r m black, wear black veils. Tho arrival - of the Antoinettes created something }c of a sensation in the streets of Paris. f. The new sect inaugurated its first tem- '.- Pie recently. It is an insignificant - little building- There is no ornamenta- < tion .inside or out, and the only break r IB tho monotony of bare walls and winf
dows is a plain, pulpit in front of which is a panel bearing the name of a dwarf tree labelled ac "the tree of the science of tho sight of evil." For the inauguration, ceremony miracles were to have boen performed by the "mother," and a number of patients dragged themselves or were helped to the pulpit. A series of ecstatic noses by the mother, however, did not prove efficacious, and the procession left, as it came, uncured.
