CONDEMNED STOCK.
MORE GENEROUS ALLOWANCE. (special to "the press.") WELLINGTON, December 8. By an amendment to the Stock Act, which was introduced this evening in the House of Representatives, more generous paynrent is proposed to be made to the owners of stock which is condemned for health reasons. The Prime Minister, in explaining the measure, said that many deputations had urged him to change the present law, which was introduced when etock was less valuable than it is now. This amending Bill will make the compensation paid more in accordance with the present value of the animal, as it will permit £12 to be paid for cattle instead of £8. Another clause permits southern sheep-owners to continue dipping a month later—February instead of January. A further clarse permits stock breeders' associations to register their brands, which may be used on live stock only for the* purpose of indicating that the said stock has, in the opinion of the society, attained such a standard of merit as may be fixed by the society. This brand may bo identical with any other, and shairbe gazetted when granted. A penalty of £10 is fixed for false brandThe Bill was referred to the Stock Committee. It will not bo proceeded with, this session.
