COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIMAIRI
The monthly meeting of the Waimairi County Council was held yesterday. Present—Messrs S. A. Staples (chairman), F. Sisson, W. Nicholls, S. bullock, W. J. Walter, G. E. Gurry, It. W. Hawke, W. P. Spencer. The Chairman reported that a conference had been held with tho Paparua Count} Council with regard to the boundary roads between the Paparua and Waimairi Counties, and an amicable arrangement had been arrived at. It was decided to approve of the committee's report of tne decision arrived at at the conference of local bodies regarding the Parity roads. It was stated 'that th,o members of the Paparua County Council had announced that the Council would not pay anything towards the upkeep of any of tlie roads in question, and in this case the setting up of a commission was inevitable. The hope was expressed that an amicable arrangement would be arrived at, without the necessity of a commission. Mr 6. Buliock reported on a conference tho Lighting Committee had held with Mr Birks wita regard to the matter 6f. light and power for the county. Mr Bullock asked for authority to again in rview the Lighting Committee of the Christchurch City Council to get all available information regarding lighting and power. A , sub-committee consisting of Messrs Bullock, Sisson, and Hawke, was appointed to wait on the Lighting Committee of the City Council to obtain tha information desired. It was stated that Mr Birks was willing to make a tour of the county to-day, and members of the Council arranged to accompany him. The Chairman reported on behaif of a snb-committee set up to deal with the salaries of the staff. The salary of the engineer had been raised from £250 to £275; clerk, from £200 to £250; typiste, to £116; foreman, to £200 \ the special foreman's salary had been increased to lls 8d per day; workmen, Is 2d per hour. The report of the committee was adopted, it was stated that building permits to tho amount of £9440 had been granted during the past month. The balance-sheet for the half-year ending September, 1913, was received from the AuditorGeneral with a tag to the effect that sums of £70 6s lid and £251 123 4d had been unlawfully used for purposes other than those for which they were received. Ratepayers were warned that 10 per cent, would be added to all rates not paid by January 31st.
