TO CORRESPONDENTS.
A correspondent is thanked for his ingenious suggestion regarding the picture transparency. W.G.T. —You appear to be entitled to vote. The Returning Officer should bo able to advise you. EATING ON TRAMCARS. TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —I think it is quite time that the consumption of sweets, or comestibles of any kind, in tranicars should be prohibited Recently, when travelling on a tramcar in this city, I saw j£ie seat in the cabin littered for about onethird of its length with crumbs and larger fragments of fancy cakes, where somebody's darling had doubtless been enjoying a birthday treat or sqme like celebration. Op another occasion, when travelling on tho same line, I saw a woman board tiie car accompanied by a small boy aged about five, deep (literally and figuratively) in the delights of one of thoso redoubtable triumphs of the coufectioner's art termed "Easter eggs." Possibly the child's toilet had been arranged in haste—possibly not; at all events, there was ample evidence in black and white (chief!v black) that the process of ablution had been omitted therefrom. Having found a seat he embraced tho back of the seat with both hands, transferring from his hands to the seat a "lutinous mass for the adornment of
..ie apparel of some future passenger. I think, since the public will not exerciso reasonable care and cleanliness, the Tramway Board would do Tell to add to its by-laws one passengers to eat while travelling on the cars.-Yours,
