NOTES.

Nominations for the Wyndham H.C.s Annual Meeting close to-morrow evening. Acceptances for the New Brighton T.C.s Summer Meeting close on Wednesday. For the Summer Meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club Mr R. H. Aldworth will act as judge. Bandeira has been nominated for sprint events at the Manawatu Summer Meeting. Blytheboy has not been rehandicapped for his Rakaia R.C. engagements for his dead-heat in the Farmers' Hack Handicap at the Hororata Meeting. The three hurdle races to be decided at the. Manawatu Racing Club's Summer Meeting have drawn an average entry of twenty. One half of the outside stand on tho Dunedin Jockey Club's course at Wingatui will be ready for occupation at the Summer Meeting commencing on Boxing Day. Thirty-three horses have been nominated for the Manawatu Cup, among them being Masterpiece, Brown Owl, Midnight Sun, Cheddar, Los Angelos, Bronze, Peroneal and Lord Rettown.

A Riccarton sportsman, acting on behalf of an Australian sportsman, made enquiries as to the price wanted for Gunflash, but a reply to the effect that £175 would induce the owner to part with him, did not lead' to business.

A special train will leave Duri63in for Christchurch at nine o'clock on the night of the second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club's Summer Meeting on Saturday, December 27th. This train will carry passengers only, horses being conveyed by the express trains during the following week. Tho Farmers' Hack Handicap at Hororata on Saturday attracted a. fair field of locally trained horses. Several of them evidently were badly in need of schooling at the barrier; a delay was caused through the vagaries of several of those engaged. One or two showed fair galloping ability, but a number ran very green, and will need a lot of racing before they are likely to win a race.

Since tho last meeting of tho Hororata Racing Club big improvements have been made to the racecourse, and the new grandstand is a very fine building for a country raceceourse. Visitors to the Club's Meetings are now enabled to witness tho racing in comfort, while the improvements to the totalisator house were much appreciated by backers.

A happy coincidence in connexion with Loch Amos's win in the Sandhurst Cup a few days ago was that , his owner Mr P. Cummin" of Junee, drew Loch Amos in Tatto all's Sweep on tho Cup. and would thus have a good win. It is doubtful if ever before a drawer of a horse in a rich sweep was able to approach the owners with the same degree of confidence to offer terms as was Mr Cummins on this occasion (says the Sydney "Daily Tolegraph").

There was distinct difference in the two displays given by Hops at Hororata on Saturday. "In the Bangor Hack Handicap, of four furlongs, he was always well placed, but failed to ran prominently at the finish, Forest Belle winning comfortably. In the Coaig.ite Welter, later in the day, he out up quite a different performance, for he went to. the front very quickly, and leading all the way gave nothing else a chance. In his first race Hops started favourite, but in the second attempt he was one of the outsiders of the field, and paid a. remunerative price.

Counsel, the winner of the Hororata Cop, is one of the first of Vasco'e progeny to race, and the manner in.which, te finished the mile and a quarter on Saturday suggests that he will turn out more than useful. His dam, Silkgown, is by Pilgrim's Progress—Portia, by BiH of Portland—Hapoy land, hi

Muskeii Vaaco is now at Mr Harvey Patterson's stud at Meadowbank. ' Both the trotting events at the Hororata Meeting on Saturday provided interesting contests, the result of the Suowdon Handicap Trot being in doubt untfl close to home, when Myrtle Palm broie and allowed Lass o' Oowrie to win very nicely. After the first half-mile, Professor was right up with the leaders, but he tired in an unaccountable manner, and had little to do witi the actual finish. In the Glendoro Trot, Elsie Franz cleared right out from her field, but Myrene, trotting very steadily, went to the , front in the straight, and won nioely.
