ORGAN RECITAL.
. Although intended for a benovolent object, the prescribed fixed charge for admission to the Organ Recital at His Majesty's Theatre reduced the attendance laet night. A miscellaneous selection made the co-operation of the St. Albans Methodist Choir wholly acceptable. But an organ accompaniment so easily obtainable would" bo largely preferable to tho poor piano provided for the occasion. They sang, the ladies prevailing and the men often too reticent with prettily delicate shading and lightness, with good intonation and attack, well directed by their conductor, Mr. Simpson, two anthems and the hymn, "Lead Kindly Light, excelling in tho last above the others.. The beautiful Organ Sonata, Op. HI, by Rhenberger, was placed at the head, and formed, by the aid of Dr. BradShaw'e fine interpretation, together j with the fanciful Prelude of Debussy, musically the most prominent features | pf his programme. Duboie's etihereal j 'In Paradisum," followed by a gay j "Toccata," and the "Andante Solonelle," by Smart, were well chosen, interesting, and charming numbers. The , Hungarian Dance, by Brahms,' next in order, sounds rather tamo on the*organ, for which the Rakoczy March is much better suited. Tho other numbers call for no special comment.
