GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY.

ANNUAL FESTIVAL.

The annual festival of the Girls Friendly Society was held on Saturday afternoon at the Riccarton llacecource. Mr and Mrs Arthur Rhodes provided trams for the whole party (some 3GO), as well as a band. The Bishop and Mrs Julius and Mr and Mrs-*rthur Rnodes were present during the early part of tho afternoon. Mrs Julius, who has been president of the Society for twenty-four years, resigned recently, but remains a life member and assures tho girls of her continued interest and affection. The whole Society—council, associates, members, and candidates —asked her to accept a silver rose-bowl and four email silrer vases in remembrance of them. They all know that she did not like tho usual "presentation," and therefore assured her that the money subscribed had been but a penny per member, and represented, not money but affection.
