GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
ANNUAL FESTIVAL.
The annual festival of the Girls Friendly Society was held on Saturday afternoon at the Riccarton llacecource. Mr and Mrs Arthur Rhodes provided trams for the whole party (some 3GO), as well as a band. The Bishop and Mrs Julius and Mr and Mrs-*rthur Rnodes were present during the early part of tho afternoon. Mrs Julius, who has been president of the Society for twenty-four years, resigned recently, but remains a life member and assures tho girls of her continued interest and affection. The whole Society—council, associates, members, and candidates —asked her to accept a silver rose-bowl and four email silrer vases in remembrance of them. They all know that she did not like tho usual "presentation," and therefore assured her that the money subscribed had been but a penny per member, and represented, not money but affection.
Tea followed, and then Mrs Julius told the gathoring how much she felt their thought for her. and aasnted those present that sho Trould be most happy to use fhcir gift. Tea followed, and thtn Mrs Julius £aro the prizes Tvlnch havo been won during the yenr. In conclusion. Mrs Julius, after wishing the girls a happy Christmas and Notv Year, remarked that true happiness depended upon making others hnppj, and begged them one and all to make their ovrn homes and families their first interest, and then to follow out the came aim in their intercourse in the ■α-orld with others.
